Primary Power BenchmarkThe raw, unadjusted rating earned by a team based on their on-field results, margin performance against model expectations, and weekly performance point gains/losses.
Because higher classifications (e.g., 7A) start from higher baseline anchors than lower classifications (e.g., 2A or 1A), raw MPI reflects a team's total accumulated power score rather than a direct pound-for-pound statewide comparison.
Relative Mississippi Power Index
Unified Pound-for-Pound ScaleThe class-standardized power index that translates every team's raw MPI onto a unified statewide scale (anchored to Class 7A) by applying historical class-strength deductions across all MHSAA (7A–1A) and MAIS divisions.
Serves as the definitive pound-for-pound statewide ranking benchmark for cross-class comparisons.
Points Above Average
Net Expected Spread MetricA relative performance metric that measures exactly how many points better (or worse) a team is compared to the statewide median team (where 0.00 represents exact median quality across the state).
For example, a team with a +32.29 PAA is projected to defeat a dead-average Mississippi high school team by ~32 points on a neutral field. Will always be in the same order as r-MPI.
Composite Mississippi Index
Holistic Multi-Factor RatingA holistic rating that evaluates a team's overall quality by blending their primary power index with efficiency metrics—combining MPI, Offensive Rating, Defensive Rating, and Strength of Schedule.
Where MPI focuses strictly on game outcomes and scoring margins vs. expectation, CMI factors in unit efficiency and schedule difficulty. A team with a dominant defense and a grueling schedule will be recognized in CMI even if close margins capped their raw MPI gains.

Standardized Unit EfficiencyA standardized unit efficiency rating relative to a dynamic statewide average baseline of 100.00.
Every 10 points better or worse represents exactly 1 standard deviation from the state mean. Higher values represent more explosive offenses and more stifling defenses.
Strength of Schedule & Variance
Schedule Quality & ConsensusStrength of Schedule (SOS): The average MPI of the opponents a program has played to date.
